Supercell wanted to bring the hype back to Clash Royale and boost downloads. The core fans live for competition, but the game had become pay-to-win. So we flipped it. Pure skill is what wins. Soccer fans could turn their wins into real World Cup tickets.
We kicked things off with location-specific OOH ads in host cities, letting people know they could get free World Cup tickets by downloading Clash Royale.

We hyped the campaign on Instagram, showing Clash Royale characters sharing the pitch with the world’s top soccer stars.
We created a meme generator that let fans turn the world’s biggest soccer star into memes, keeping the Clash Cup buzz going off the pitch.
THE CLASH CUP
Players went 1v1 in the Clash Royale app to defend their World Cup ticket. Win and move on. Lose and it’s gone. Everyone used the same deck, so skill was all that mattered.
11 regional tournaments. 11 regional champions. 11 World Cup Final ticket winners.
Regional winners popped up on jumbotrons across host stadiums, showing everyone who the real winner in town is.
ailgates ran alongside 11 Clash Cup Tournaments, turning into the ultimate Clash Cup hub. New players battled for World Cup seats while OGs got an epic Clash Royale experience. Only for app users, with free food, live music, prizes, and giant TVs.

Fans experienced Clash Royale like never before through Virtual Reality.
All tailgate fans got a Clash Kazoo to add their own winning sound to the atmosphere.
Regional champions won World Cup Final tickets, battling for the Clash Cup title and the crown of #1 winner in the world.

We crowned the Clash Cup champion at halftime of the World Cup Final, in front of the world.
